Memi Jewellery launches at Canal Walk

MeMi 57.jpg

(Cape Town) Canal Walk is now home to the very first Memi Jewellery retail store. Fuelled by an interactive design ethic, the novelty of the live Memi experience is that customers get to co-create their jewellery, resulting in a personalised piece that gives unique expression to the wearer.

At the official Memi Jewellery store launch outside H&M on 2 October, 2019, guests each received a gift card and personalised sterling silver Motif Disc necklace.

And it’s this personal touch that sets the Memi brand apart. Memi CEO, Gary Nathan explains:

“Today’s consumers are different. They want an experience - a conversation piece that connects people. This store has a state of the art laser engraving machine, setup with our own software. We are able to engrave the jewellery in store in the time it takes to have a cup of coffee. We give our customers a voucher to grab a cup of coffee on us, while we make sure their piece is ready when they return.”

Themed “Memi - me, myself and I”, the brand offers on trend jewellery that celebrates female individuality. This includes striking hand-crafted necklaces, bracelets, 'name' collections and charms.

With a focus on producing modern designs catering for all ages, the Canal Walk store offers their full range of collections across 9kt yellow gold, white gold, rose gold and sterling silver. Here customers can individualize their jewellery with add-ons such as birthstone accents, or engraved special messages.

Memi Jewellery - Your Charm Story

Three-year old Memi’s Design Lab and production facility is located in Cape Town. “We have an awesome team who are passionate about Memi. We use a combination of the latest technology and traditional gold smithing techniques to produce high quality personalised fine jewellery. Each piece is made using precious metals – solid gold or sterling silver. It is real, authentic, and valuable just like the wearer”, adds Gary.
“We are extremely proud of our charm collection called Create your Story. We have created a unique system, and registered a patent that allows the wearer to easily thread charms onto a Memi necklace or bracelet. Each charm represents a hope, a memory, a celebration of life’s journey. You can view many of the over 200 designs on our charm wall in store.”

“Every Memi piece is provided with a unique extension bead that allows the wearer to easily adjust the length, styling it according to her mood of the day.”

“One of our ranges, The Inside Story, was inspired by a friend suffering with cancer. He wanted to create a piece his daughter would be happy to wear every day that had a personal message from him to her. Unfortunately, he succumbed to cancer but his daughter continues to wear this treasured piece every day. We have expanded this collection to include many variations that you can view in-store.” A percentage of sales of this collection go to the Rohan Bloom Foundation.

Look out for more Memi stores which open across South Africa in the next 18 months.

Gåte Molecular Gastronomy Masterclass & Tasting Journey

QuoinRock-27.08.19 234.jpg

Dazzling food design personifiesGåte’s mouth-watering gastronomy, and this is perfectly illustrated in the restaurant’s newly launched Daytime Experience - a six course set menu dubbed A Journey Around the World, which craftily underpins the delights of global cuisine.

Quoin Rock’s intercontinental flair has been fashioned by the Ukrainian Gaiduk family, who purchased the estate in 2012. And Gåte’s adventurous new menu now amplifies the Gaiduk’s all-embracing ethic with artistry that’s guaranteed to tantalise.

To get up close to the inner working of Gåte’s kitchen, Quoin Rock hosted a fun Molecular Gastronomy Masterclass & Tasting Journey, culminating in a sublime tasting menu. The media launch immersed participants in the behind-the-scenes operations of a top-end industrial kitchen. A dream workspace for any forward-thinking creator, it houses a centrefuge, walk-in fridges, pacojects, a glass freezer, Convotherm ovens, a Thermomix, tunnels for micro-herbs, and more - a well-equipped playground for any discerning chef!

The Daytime Experience was devised by Head Chef Nicole Loubser, aided by a young and experienced team of chefs. The menu is a reduced option of a 14 course dinner menu.

Molecular gastronomy is introduced into the menu, but it’s not the main focus. “We have selected 14 different countries and we’ve chosen what their specific flavours are and have incorporated South Africa with that. It’s very flexible, so we can mix and match countries,” comments Chef Nicole.

Chefs have been allowed free expression to inject a modern twist into classical cuisine. Attention has been paid to height, texture, colour and contrast, resulting in superb gourmet dishes paired with exquisite Quoin Rock wine.

Gåte restaurant’s exceptional gourmet cuisine has been affirmed by triumphant wins at the World Luxury Restaurant Awards.

There is much to celebrate on the lavish Quoin Rock estate and these accolades highlight the skill of Head Chef Nicole Loubser and her team.

The World Luxury Restaurant Awards are seen as the pinnacle of achievement in the luxury restaurant industry, offering international recognition as voted by guests, travellers and industry players.

Gåte has been declared the 2019 Global Restaurant of the Year Overall Winner, and well as the 2019 Haute Cuisine Global Winner. Exalted Quoin Rock Pushes The Limits Of Creative Artistry

Gåte-Restaurant-Gate-at-Quoin-Rock-Boring-Cape-Town-Chick-7-1024x683.jpg

Since its launch in November 2018, family-owned Quoin Rock Estate has introduced a new dimension of luxury to the Cape winelands.

Elegant, chic and eye-catching, everything at Quoin Rock offers a refined experience - designer architecture and furnishings, award-winning wine, and superb molecular gastronomy at Gåte Restaurant, which pushes boundaries with arty aesthetics and a playful spirit that epitomises the theatre of food.

Quoin Rock’s exclusive use Manor House maximises sweeping views of the Simonsberg, which can also be enjoyed from the Gåte tasting lounge and terrace, and a newly-built function venue overlooking the estate vineyards.

The farm’s transformation has taken place over six years, when the Gaiduk family purchased it in 2012. Managing Director Denis Gaiduk explains: “My dad Vitaly Gaiduk is a wine enthusiast and as his collection grew, he decided to ‘paint his own painting’. He was looking to buy a wine farm in Italy but saw this amazing farm and fell in love with it. It took several years to improve the vineyards, with the aim being to create wine which would compete on the international market. Our Quoin Rock Shiraz 2015 is already a Top 12 Shiraz in South Africa – and this is a beginning. We want to create something big, bold and powerful.”

Denis’ wish is for guests to quieten and savour their excellent wines. “I want to be a wine lounge, because if you’re drinking an exceptional wine it can’t just be quick.”

What makes Quoin Rock so inimitable is the uniqueness of the terrior, the winemaking techniques and mountain views. “This place is built to enjoy the beauty of the surrounds - at daytime for people to have more of a wine experience and at night to have more of a food experience,” he adds.

Helmed by Head Chef Nicole Loubser fronting a team of 11 chefs, Gåte has taken innovative dining to new heights. The novelty of dining here includes a fourteen-course menu presented in cube format.

Nicole brings expertise acquired at Jan Hendrik’s 1 star Michelin restaurant in Nice and Salzburg’s 2 star Ikarus. “Dining at Gåte is cutting edge because we focus not just on molecular gastronomy, but also on fine dining. We aim to play with the senses.”

Part of the joy of this superb gourmet indulgence is the artistic presentation. “When I plate, it’s like a canvas.” Guests can choose from a seven-course dinner, or a five-course lunch menu. Lunch includes two teaser dinner dishes.

Food is paired with 10 estate wines, which includes two bubbles. Winemaker Jacques Maree explains: “Our wine has the ability to pair fantastically with any food. We’ve got grapes from Elim and Stellenbosch which give two different fruit profiles.”

“The Simonsberg is your classical Bordeaux area, so the result is more new world, bigger structures and fruit forward.” Quoin Rock also does a grappa.

Special events and weddings are superbly catered for in a function hall accommodating parties of 150 to 200 people, and offers three catering options.

The beautiful Manor House epitomizes the opulent Quoin Rock lifestyle. In keeping with opulent villas popular for multi-age family travel, this exclusive, tranquil haven accommodates 14 people. Features include a honeymoon suite and garden designed by Francesca Watson. Packages range from bed and breakfast to full board for a minimum stay of two nights.
